Abstract |
Analisa a utilização de enciclopédias gerais em bibliotecas públicas e escolares, mediante entrevista com profissionais de informação atuantes do setor de referência de 31 bibliotecas públicas e escolares da Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte. Verificaram-se quais as enciclopédias mais utilizadas, quais as consideradas mais adequadas, a categoria de usuário que as utiliza, a finalidade do uso, o modo de complementação das informações e o papel do profissional da informação na seleção das enciclopédias. |

Abstract |
Apresenta um panorama do uso da internet por alunos do ensino fundamental. Os participantes da pesquisa usam a rede no ambiente doméstico, demonstrando bastante independência e visão crítica. Escola e biblioteca, bem como professores e bibliotecários, não têm participação efetiva no processo, embora se conclua que há espaço para mediação nos aspectos de seleção e organização da informação, onde o bibliotecário pode dar contribuição significativa. |

Abstract |
The aim of this article is to gain a better understanding of information literacy as it is put into pratice by library science students in Brazil. It shows how library science students accomplish tasks assigned by their professors and is based on Kuhlthaus's studies on the process of information-seeking. An attempt was made to identify skills, attidutes, and knowledge related to the development of the various stages of the process. In addition, aspects that did not fit into these patterns were observed. Responses were analyzed to identify patterns of feelings, attidutes, and actions described by the respondents, and results were compared with Kulhthaus´s model. |

Abstract |
An analysis was made of the Brazilian National Curricular Standards for basic education in order to identify skills related to information literacy, using AASL Information Power as basis.The objective of this analysis was to investigate the extent to which these skills are represented in the Brazilian educational policy document and if they are viewed as integral part of students' comprehensive literacy. The analysis showed that NCS include the basic information literacy skills (to access, evaluate and use information). Emphasis on independent learning by means of a variety of information resources is present in the document as well as issues regarding social responsability. So, there is a positive perspective for information literacy programs to be developed in Brazilian schools in the context of the official curricular guidelines. |

Descreve as circunstâncias do termo information literacy nos Estados Unidos (neste artigo, traduzido como competência informacional), mostrando como a classe bibliotecária norte-americana dele se apropriou para resaltar sua ação educativa que vinha sendo consolidada havia várias décadas. Apresnta uma perspectiva da competência informacional como parte do letramento, em que o desenvolivimento das habilidades informacionais se daria no bojo das práticas desse processo. Relata as ações do Grupo de Estudos em Biblioteca Escolar, que busca compreender as possibilidades de se construir uma perspectivca de competência informacional adequada à realidade brasileira. |
