| Abstract | The aim of this article is to gain a better understanding of information literacy as it is put into pratice by library science students in Brazil. It shows how library science students accomplish tasks assigned by their professors and is based on Kuhlthaus's studies on the process of information-seeking. An attempt was made to identify skills, attidutes, and knowledge related to the development of the various stages of the process. In addition, aspects that did not fit into these patterns were observed. Responses were analyzed to identify patterns of feelings, attidutes, and actions described by the respondents, and results were compared with Kulhthaus´s model. | ||||

| Abstract | An analysis was made of the Brazilian National Curricular Standards for basic education in order to identify skills related to information literacy, using AASL Information Power as basis.The objective of this analysis was to investigate the extent to which these skills are represented in the Brazilian educational policy document and if they are viewed as integral part of students' comprehensive literacy. The analysis showed that NCS include the basic information literacy skills (to access, evaluate and use information). Emphasis on independent learning by means of a variety of information resources is present in the document as well as issues regarding social responsability. So, there is a positive perspective for information literacy programs to be developed in Brazilian schools in the context of the official curricular guidelines. | ||||

| Abstract | Este trabalho tem como objetivo traçar um panorama da situação das bibliotecas escolares no Brasil e de questões que afetam seu desenvolvimento, utilizando a metodologia de análise textual. Dois pontos emergiram da análise: 1) o surgimento de grupos de pesquisa acadêmica desde a década de 1990 e o consequente aumento dos estudos sobre biblioteca escolar indicam que a base teórica para a melhoria dessas instituições está sendo construída e 2) a promulgação, em 24 de maio de 2010 da Lei 12.244, que obriga que cada escola brasileira de educação básica tenha uma biblioteca representou uma grande conquista, mas sua eficácia ainda precisa ser comprovada. |

| Abstract | A biblioteca escolar não tem desenvolvido de forma efetiva sua ação educativa. Atividades de orientação da pesquisa escolar, apoio à leitura e ação cultural têm sido oferecidas pela biblioteca de maneira esporádica e assistemática, desvinculadas dos conteúdos curriculares. A fim de contribuir para o esforço de educar crianças e jovens para conviver numa sociedade em mudança, caracterizada por abundância informacional sem precendentes, a biblioteca precisa se integrar verdadeiramente à escola, trabalhando em consonância com seu objetivo principal: a aprendizagem. E para isso é necessário atuar em sintonia com a realidade escolar, isto é, de forma planejada, sistemática e constante. Em síntese, a biblioteca deve implementar um programa de atividades que amplie sua ação educativa e que lhe permita trabalhar em conjunto com os professores, no sentido de definir as habilidades a serem alcançadas pelos alunos, estabelecer a estratégias para se chegar aos objetivos propostos e propor formas e avaliação da aprendizagem. Esse programa dará transparência à ação da biblioteca, permitindo a inscrição do trabalho do bibliotecário no esforço de formar cidadãos responsáveis e críticos e pessoas capazes de encontrar satisfação pessoal e desenvolver sua criatividade. Dessa forma, a biblioteca poderá vir a ser um verdadeiro espaço de construção do conhecimento. | ||||
