Abstract  |
Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva de natureza quanti-qualitativa, com o objetivo principal de apreender as representações sociais dos docentes do Colégio Marista Pio X sobre o papel do Bibliotecário escolar no processo de ensino/aprendizagem. Para tanto, utilizou-se, como instrumento de coleta de dados, o questionário misto e, como técnica de análise, a categorização presente no método de análise de conteúdo proposto por Bardin. Os resultados da análise indicaram que os serviços do Bibliotecário apresentam ações de qualidade quanto ao respeito ao usuário como cidadão e a presença constante dos docentes em atividades e projetos na biblioteca. Percebeu-se também que o profissional bibliotecário é essencial as atividades e projetos e que a biblioteca já não é mais pensada como local para mero armazenamento de livros ou materiais bibliográficos. Muito mais que isto, elas são o meio mais racional para tornar a informação acessível à maioria das pessoas além de ser espaço de convivência e local de discussão, trocas e vivências significativas. |

| Abstract |
Trata-se de apresentação de parte dos resultados da pesquisa de Mestrado intitulada “Comportamento e competência informacional infantil: o olhar da Ciência da Informação sobre a geração digital” na qual se buscou, compreender como o acesso ao grande número de informações disponíveis está impactando o desenvolvimento intelectual das crianças contemporâneas. Nesta perspectiva, o objetivo da pesquisa foi compreender a visão da Ciência da Informação em relação ao comportamento informacional das crianças frente aos impactos das novas tecnologias, com vistas à promoção da competência informacional infantil. Como parte do percurso metodológico, os procedimentos técnicos empregados foram a pesquisa bibliográfica e o levantamento de dados. Os resultados encontrados demonstram que a concepção da criança como usuária de informação no âmbito da competência informacional infantil ainda é incipiente na área de Ciência da Informação, considerando-se analise realizada nos trabalhos do Encontro Nacional de Pesquisa em Ciência da Informação – ENANCIB observou-se que ainda não foram desenvolvidas reflexões significativas sobre o tema, demonstrando a importância de discussões sobre a educação de crianças para o uso da informação. |

| Abstract |
This essay is the result of several years of frustrating work at plublic schools of the Rio de Janeiro state, trying to teach the English language to adolescents who could barely read productively in their mother-tongue, Portuguese; believing in reading as a mind-opening process, I deviated from my basic function to work as a school librarian, with is seen as a minor job inside Brazilian schools. Starting with high-school adolescents, I soon found out that acquiring positive reading habits might only be feasible at the basis of the schooling process. And it has proved to be true. Herein I try to describe, in general terms, reality inside public school libraries in Rio de Janeiro, the importance of reading, the role of communication in education and my personal experience as a teacher of dinamic reading at the school library. Important consequences have been perceived in cognitive, social and psychological aspects and research was done based on 210 questionnaires applied to 4th-grade stundents of four primary schools, as well as 40(forty) elementary-school teachers. Thus it is possible to compare personal facts and the development of social ideas plus reading habits divided into two categories: library-equipped schools and schools without libraries. This work tries to prove the students positive response to a dynamic program, with no relation to other teachers´influence. The final considerations apologize for the emotional tone given to narrative, recommend a few changes in the attidutes of those who might wish to pursue the experience, and emphasize the personal, democratic endeavour of the responsible teacher, who basic function is to hear all the pupils an to be ready to honestly exchange and perform actual dialogue. |

| Abstract |
The aim of this article is to gain a better understanding of information literacy as it is put into pratice by library science students in Brazil. It shows how library science students accomplish tasks assigned by their professors and is based on Kuhlthaus's studies on the process of information-seeking. An attempt was made to identify skills, attidutes, and knowledge related to the development of the various stages of the process. In addition, aspects that did not fit into these patterns were observed. Responses were analyzed to identify patterns of feelings, attidutes, and actions described by the respondents, and results were compared with Kulhthaus´s model. |
