Abstract  |
The aim of this article is to gain a better understanding of information literacy as it is put into pratice by library science students in Brazil. It shows how library science students accomplish tasks assigned by their professors and is based on Kuhlthaus's studies on the process of information-seeking. An attempt was made to identify skills, attidutes, and knowledge related to the development of the various stages of the process. In addition, aspects that did not fit into these patterns were observed. Responses were analyzed to identify patterns of feelings, attidutes, and actions described by the respondents, and results were compared with Kulhthaus´s model. |

| Abstract |
Visou-se analisar como os responsáveis pelas bibliotecas escolares orientam os trabalhos de pesquisa dos alunos de 5ª à 8ª séries do ensino fundamental, na rede pública de ensino da cidade de Marília – SP. Do total de 34 escolas, selecionou-se 18. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se um questionário constituído por uma série ordenada de 11 perguntas; apenas 8 escolas o responderam, 4 não tiveram como responder por falta de biblioteca e 6 delas, devido à falta de encarregados das bibliotecas. Observou-se que os encarregados não têm o conhecimento suficiente para orientar os alunos na pesquisa, eles apenas disponibilizam os materiais; mas, quando chega a hora dos alunos pesquisarem, não sabem orientar os estudantes a estruturar os novos conhecimentos. Neste caso, se faz necessário estar presente nas escolas, o bibliotecário, pois ele certamente amenizaria os problemas de pesquisa bibliográfica dos alunos e dos demais usuários da biblioteca escolar. |
